Very good as always Calvin. You know I think the C of E has lost the plot and jumps on all the latest 'cultural trends' it can and listens to those who speak loudest and often enough. Perhaps to look relevant, perhaps to genuinely right a wrong, but it's not always sensible or even right is clear to see. My faith in Synod is rock bottom.Indeed, we become 'of the world and in it'. I suggest they need to look at Christian tradition and the Gospel to find a true course that they have deviated from. They say we are! No, I' can't always agree with that at all. It's sad that the Bishop of Oxford feels he can support same sex marriage in his recent booklet. Is that ok because he is a bishop? Or we live in a society where we can say that but not other things? Perhaps a case of heresy is required against him and his suffragans. Very strange they all agree.

Reparations based on what we have allegedly as a church done is the past is nonsense. If you go down this rabbit whole where do you stop? I mean we had the Romans here centuries ago and some Britain's were slaves, do we then trace this back to Italy now? The past is the past and its complex and nobody has a white sheet. At best a history that has blemishes on and this includes the whole earth I would imagine. However, the real and wise question is, can we and other wealthy countries, help poorer countries transition to this new world we live in? Weather its' a natural cycle, all humans, or both, matters not a lot as we need significant change with climate issues is plain to see. However, we must bear in mind that due to covid, war etc, funds are stretched and many countries inc the UK have massive debt. So reparations, no, not all all. Future help to transition, yes. However as always it is the small number of nations that are high polluters , that must change to have an impact and real change.I do not see so many protesting against them.

Reparations will line the pockets of woke and corrupt politicians. Supporting reparations will actually be supporting corruption and anti-white ideologies.

If anyone is owed reparations it’s Britain. Not that I’m endorsing the idea. But Britain gave the world its modern understanding of liberty, prosperity and morality. And that’s before we discuss the enormous sacrifice made by the men and women that came before us that paid the ultimate price in protecting and defending those ideals against the tyranny of oppressive forces throughout history.

And what about our intellectual property? The world industrialised and prospered on the back of technologies developed here in Britain. Where are the monies owed for that privilege? I don’t recall any payments coming our way for the right to enjoy the benefits those innovations brought to nations the world over.

It’s just another attempt at moral grandstanding by an elite that thirst for perpetual validation from the masses.

I’m tired of being expected to shoulder the burden that comes with financing their seemingly limitless egos.

Well argued and beautifully written. You probably know that the Irish were among the first indentured slaves, sent in their tens of thousands on coffin ships across the world.

Thank you Fr Calvin. This is the real history that the woke want to forget or suppress because it breaks their narratives & racial extortion.

A cogently written piece as ever Calvin. It seems the idea of reparations is proliferating and being extended to the context of climate change. This is worrying.

Calvin, the truth is, there is a total loss of reason and common sense amongst many politicians and factions. There is never the whole truth - there is only part truth. Only this is seized upon and 'run with' with indignant protestations and demands.

And as for the Church of England. Don't get me started. They seem to jump on every woke bandwagon. They have brought the world into the church in search of converts. How's that going? Folk are hungry and desperate for the true gospel. No one talks of the dire need for repentance and Christ's forgiveness anymore. For heaven's sake, don't offend anyone.....

We should not pay a penny. It's madness and totally unacceptable. Is this a given or to be debated in parliament? Put it to the people and I know exactly what the answer will be.

Well written commentary that has the 'usual Calvin flair' which makes for good, common sense reading!

Calvin, are you reading ‘Dr Magnus Jones at PAU!’? The very ‘inclusive’ Revd Andrew Bold I think you should read about...
